The new project

I also don’t think Cut Copy is releasing a limited-edition mini sequencer and synth like the Gemini Capsule, which the band is debuting at Lincoln Hall on Saturday 21 for the release party of its latest EP, Here We Sit.”

We’ve been working with Mike Pendleton of MP Custom Made on a new version of the Beep-it Deluxe. Mike is a fantastic craftsman and woodworker and he has found a good source of wood- when buildings in Chicago are demolished, there’s a lot of great old-growth Chicago wood that can be salvaged.

So, the new Beep-it Deluxes will be housed in a handsome handmade wood case, from recycled wood that’s around 100 years old. It’s pine, but a very mature and conditioned pine that feels and behaves like a hardwood. We’re half-planing the wood, meaning that we’re keeping a lot of the crusty patina that’s developed over the last century. The half-planed version is on the right in these photos. On the left is a fully planed version that shows the grain of the wood beneath. Which is nice, but we like the crusty version better :)

These cases will then be milled using our new ShapeOko CNC machine to add the Unatronics tuning fork design and to label the controls.

A little while back Unatronics sponsored the kick starter of a DIY CNC machine. Got to meet Edward Ford, the man behind the project, last night. He gave a talk and a demo of the finished machine and it looks fantastic. We’re pretty excited to get our hands on this thing and make some pcb’s and do some custom etching.

Yes, it will be able to mill copper-clad board to make PCBs :)
